Artist's Statement

My portraits rarely have a background as I like to focus on the person, the character. A background seems incidental, to distract from the subject. I find it interesting achieving physical likeness at one with the sitter's character. As an illustrator I drew and painted predominately people. The face an abiding fascination and an endless subject.
My cityscapes are the "face" of where I live and visit and are on no less an interest to me. Though a contrast in painting styles, the approach suits the subject and my love of variety.

Siân Frances has been a professional artist for over twenty years.

As a former court artist for The Times and Channel 4 News her work is predominately figurative and her artistic skills are now focussed on lively contemporary portraits and cityscapes.

Sian is based in central London. She works for private and commercial commissions.
